GEOSPATIAL REVOLUTION
FINAL PROJECT
2014

In this story I want to show how much deforestation and increased production of crops has taken place
near Malaga, southern Spain, with maps from different sources.

River Guadalhorce has always been an important crop-production due to the fact that it allows good irrigation for growing fruits and vegetables. From year 2000 production increased dramatically  awake of new exportation rules were stablished to other European countries. Since then, this area plays an important role in local economic, and competes in relation to Valencia and Murcia, who where already top of the list for many years before.

The image capture below show the difference between the years 1975-2000 in Guadalhorce River.

The images below show differences along the years 1990 – 2010, infrared colors showing values of NDVI to enhance blue areas corresponding to the increase of vegetation and red correspond to deforestation.

Blue correspond to vegetation whereas red correspond to deforestation.
